Fall Photos and Wine

Sometimes I get super frustrated with the weather in our corner of the world. Spring takes forever to arrive, and winter can be brutal. Nova Scotia has some spectacular weather in the fall however, and I think it would be the best time to travel here unless you're hardcore into laying on the beach.

Brett (check out his website here) and I have been friends since we were twelve. We try to catch up every so often, and both of us wanted to catch some fall scenery. After a quick swing by Starbucks, we were off on Highway 101 to visit Avondale Sky Winery. Even from the highway the leaves were pretty, but once we pulled onto the secondary roads, we couldn't get over the amazing colors.

We sampled some yummy wine and left with a few bottles each.  There wasn't one I tried that I didn't like! The inside of the winery was beautiful. It's a refurbished church and they retained a lot of the stained glass.

I was determined to wear this scarf even though it produces lint like nothing else I've ever seen. It was the first day this fall I wore tall boots, and I was so cozy. We stopped at a few colourful spots on the way back home, and this pretty laneway was the perfect place to snap some photos.

Cottage Casual

Friends, food, and a cottage are always a great combo. I was lucky enough to spend my Saturday night with a great group of ladies for a bachelorette party. We took over two cottages at Oceanstone, a beautiful spot close to Peggy's Cove.

The weather wasn't great, but we were cozy inside all night. I'd love to venture back sometime when the weather is hot and sunny!

Wave After Wave

Um, this bag is literally a third of the size of me.

I made a silly mistake last week. I reached over a boiling kettle and scalded my forearm- ouch! No sunless tanner for me until it's healed as I'd rather not mess with my skin tone. Last thing I need is a permanently bronzed patch!

Good thing red hair and pale skin go together. I feel a little bit less Casper-ish than I would with blond hair and no color.

This is Winter

Apologies blog readers for not keeping up with the style posts lately.

We had a big snow storm on Sunday, and then Wednesday, this happened.

My hero

I'm writing this on Wednesday afternoon, still unsure as to how the city is going to even function for the next little bit. The snowbanks were already enormous before this week, and I'm going to venture a guess that we've seen about 80 cm (almost 3 feet) of snow in the past four days.

Normally, our street gets plowed early - there's a school bus that uses it. With March Break this week, and being the only home on this stretch of the street, I'm a bit concerned. The drifts on the street were waist-high!

Spring begins on Friday (LOL - that's just cruel).  I'm interested to hear everyone's predictions on how long this is going to take to melt. My guess is, the last trace of snow/ice will be on our property until May 2.

Lobster Day

Nova Scotia is known for its lobster. I don't like thinking of how they are prepared, or breaking into them, but if the work is done for me, I love to eat them! R's aunt generously treats us to lobster every Boxing Day. I try to wear something comfortable but polished, and push-up sleeves are a must!

Some of my other Nova Scotia favorites are maple syrup (almost the season for it) and blueberries (way out of season). Halifax is also known for its donairs, which apparently are VERY hard to find outside of Atlantic Canada.

The White Christmas

Happy New Year! I'm incredibly excited to be celebrating the start of what's sure to be a big year in my life. Personal plans for the year include getting back in shape and getting married (preferably in that order). Blog plans  include continuing to make connections, learning how to use my new camera properly, and keeping tabs on my spending with my monthly clothing budget.

Rewinding back to last week, here's what I wore on Christmas Eve. I was a little oversparkled for work, but whatever - it was a half-day.Typically, Nova Scotia has a green Christmas as the snow doesn't usually arrive until January, but this year it was super-white! We've had more snow than I ever remember having in December. Pretty to look at, not so pretty to shovel.
