A Different Spin on Classic

I've been gravitating towards more classic pieces lately - basic blazers, single coloured tops, and dark jeans. Endless combinations of outfits can be made from the basics. I like having a piece I own go with almost everything rather than only being able to pair it with something specific.

Details
Coat: Banana Republic
Scarf: H&M
Pants: Joe Fresh
Boots: Aldo

I need to stick with basics with this coat. I can't pair it with my hot pink cords or my patterned skinnies. Teaming it with "quieter" pieces results is a fairly timeless look.

With exactly one week to go til we leave for Vegas, I'm busy busy busy! Details to be taken care of this week include finalizing the seating plans, getting my Invisalign off (for a few weeks anyway), and writing our speech. Oh yes and packing. While destination weddings have less "picky details" they do involve packing. Good thing I planned my Vegas outfits months ago... I had to when we packed our house into storage!

So Much Thanks

One of my absolute favourite colour combos ever - black, white, and red! My room was this colour scheme in junior high!

This was what I wore to a recent work conference. The first day of a conference, I tend to go with the pulled together "smart" look... aaaand day two is usually jeans. Guess which day this was?

Blazer: Ann Taylor
Shirt: Old Navy
Bag and Booties: c/o Nine West
Skirt: Club Monaco
Sunnies: Coach

Check out how well I match the leaves

Whenever I'm in Truro I try to stop at Jimolly's for a London Fog and some bakery treats. I swear a good London Fog will put me into a happy trance-like state.

This is Thanksgiving weekend in Canada! I have so much to be thankful for this year (and every year really). I've had great opportunities to hang out with friends and family lately (showers and bachelorettes galore), and I know the next few weeks will be full of love with our wedding only two short weeks away. Half the fun is the anticipation, so I'm in a really happy place right now! Not to say that it isn't stressful (especially when you throw in the dramatics of building a house)! Deep breaths...

Happy Thanksgiving to you all. I'll be back next week!

Wedding Wednesday: The Bachelorette 2.0

A second group of friends stole me away for the day on Saturday to a surprise destination! Once we got on the road, it was revealed that we were heading to the Annapolis Valley for a wine tour, which is something I've wanted to do for a long time. I find it hard to believe I did this in Napa Valley before I did it in my own province!

Details
Vest and tank: Smart Set
Sweater: Joe Fresh
Jeans: Guess by Marciano
Boots: Aldo
Scarf: H&M
Bag: Coach

We took a double decker bus and went to four different wineries. The weather was only semi-cooperatve. We did get rained on a bit (hence the fuzzy hair) but the weather in no way dampened our spirits. An amazing time was had! Afterwards, we went back home for a low-key get-together with great food and some more wine.

Thanks so much to all the ladies who made this another fabulous wedding-prep day to remember forever.

Sunday Right Now 10.05.14 (1430)

Reading: Mirror, Mirror Off the Wall: How I learned to Love my Body by Not Looking at it For a Year by Kjerstin Gruys. I was drawn to this book in the library because of it's pretty pink cover and then when I read the book jacket, I knew I had to borrow it. I'm not too far into it yet, but it's really funny. What a brave girl to have given up mirrors when she was getting ready to get married!
Writing: Emails upon emails to our wedding coordinators. Many many care plans at work (things suddenly got really busy). Blog posts when I can.
Clicking: On way fewer blogs than I'd like to (I'm so behind on all of my faves). I'm currently obsessed with finding a wedding lipstick, so I'm watching a lot of Youtube videos on makeup.
Seeing: Just the computer screen and a football game on TV
Smelling: Chocolate (we just shared a piece of my friend's delicious chocolate pavlova... yummmm)
Hearing: Football commentators (they are so LOUD). They need to learn to chill.
Feeling: Like I have developed a legit medical condition which I will call bridal brain. It's similar to baby brain. I keep losing things, spending ages looking for them, then finding them somewhere I have already looked. I hope I get my full mental faculties back after the ceremony. I'm also feeling a bit sleepy after my 2nd bachelorette party yesterday. It was so much fun! I'll blog about it soon.
Wearing: The warmest clothing I have right now that's not in storage. A football sweatshirt of R's, sweatpants, and socks. We had a golf cart tour of the golf course this morning and it was really cold and rainy. The golf course is so incredible though. Hard to believe something that stunning is being built in our little community!

Anticipating: Vegas, wedding, new house. I can't even focus on getting excited over one of these things because THEY ARE ALL SO FUN! The last time I was this excited was ten years ago anticipating leaving on my year-long overseas adventure.

Focus on Fall Nails

As much as summer brights are amazing, when the fall comes I look forward to darker and earthier nail colours. Silly me decided to pack about 90% of my nail polish away in storage while we're between houses... and I've acquired about ten new polishes because I missed my variety so much! The more the merrier, right?

Here are some ideas for taking your summer nail colours into the new season. With just a subtle shift in shades, you'll look more season-appropriate.

Of the above colours, I am drawn most strongly to the orange colour, second from the top. When Julep asked me to create a style board based on my chosen colour, this is the one that inspired me.

Now It's Fall

Vince sweater, $415 / J Brand jeans / Nine West flat shoes / MICHAEL Michael Kors leather satchel, $475 / Oasis drop earrings, $13 / Givenchy scarve, $365

I can picture wearing this outfit to a casual weekend brunch with the girls or maybe for a day of marathon shopping, given the flats look so incredibly comfy. The slight openness of the shoes is okay for early October, but I'd switch them out for low boots once the weather gets cooler.

Have you found any great new polish colours for fall? Julep has some great ones!
