Focus on Fall Nails

As much as summer brights are amazing, when the fall comes I look forward to darker and earthier nail colours. Silly me decided to pack about 90% of my nail polish away in storage while we're between houses... and I've acquired about ten new polishes because I missed my variety so much! The more the merrier, right?

Here are some ideas for taking your summer nail colours into the new season. With just a subtle shift in shades, you'll look more season-appropriate.

Of the above colours, I am drawn most strongly to the orange colour, second from the top. When Julep asked me to create a style board based on my chosen colour, this is the one that inspired me.

Now It's Fall

Vince sweater, $415 / J Brand jeans / Nine West flat shoes / MICHAEL Michael Kors leather satchel, $475 / Oasis drop earrings, $13 / Givenchy scarve, $365

I can picture wearing this outfit to a casual weekend brunch with the girls or maybe for a day of marathon shopping, given the flats look so incredibly comfy. The slight openness of the shoes is okay for early October, but I'd switch them out for low boots once the weather gets cooler.

Have you found any great new polish colours for fall? Julep has some great ones!

One Day of Sun

Ahh Vancouver. You're pretty when you're rainy and stunning when you're sunny. Apologies for the quality of there photos. Since upgrading to the Canon Rebel, I no longer have a travel-friendly camera that I can pop in my purse, so I decided not to take it on the trip.

R and I took a lovely walk along the seawall (why can't Halifax have a seawall?) after I attended the Plenty Warehouse sale last Friday. I came away with nothing from the sale, but it was an interesting experience. Guess who's not a fan of a giant changing room for all the girls? Also not a big fan of lines. The sweater I liked wasn't worth the hour wait to pay.

Turkey Troubles

Nothing ruins a food-filled holiday weekend like a raging stomach virus. Fortunately this didn't hit until very early Monday morning so only one day was affected. I intended on posting yesterday, but t be honest, I was running super-low on energy and fluids so I needed to save all my efforts for clicking my remote. Today, I'm still laying low but hopefully will be back to the grind tomorrow.

I was so sad to miss out on Thanksgiving! R's family has a huge dinner with a ton of food. This year, my parents and one of my friends were supposed to join in. There is a plate for me in the fridge and I might try to tackle it later today. Despite being ill, I still have a lot to be thankful for this year. I am a lucky girl, even if I missed the turkey.

Here's an outfit I wore to the mall and Target this weekend. There's still 3.1 Phillip Lim stuff at my Target! It's on clearance now, but there was noting left I was interested in.

Outfit Inspiration: Mint

I love when longdistanceloving makes me think outside the box. For this week's Fridays Fancies link-up, she wanted us to create an outfit inspired by a summer treat. The day I created this post, I was craving a Mint Oreo Blizzard from DQ.

Outfit Inspiration: Mint Chip

Vince tank top, $260 / STELLA McCARTNEY pocket shorts / Banana Republic black and white shoes / Marc by Marc Jacobs shoulder bag / Linea Pelle studded bracelet / Stella & Dot dot jewelry / Michael Kors , $88

I think this ensemble would be perfect for leisurely window-shopping or sightseeing in a new city. The flats are functional but still chic and the bag is hands-free. My biggest rule for city walking is no heels (not even  the most innocent-looking wedges).

What style rules do you swear by for sightseeing?

Shorty Short Shorts

Being a short legged girl with a crazy long torso, short shorts should be my friend.

Truth: In the post-30 era of my life, I'm so much more comfortable in longer ones.

Some of us Canadians are gearing up for a long weekend. The whole country doesn't get this holiday (so sad), and it's a sore spot with those who don't. In Halifax we call it Natal Day and it's a celebration of the province's birthday.

I'm linked with longdistanceloving for a feature post on shorts. Check out what the other bloggers have come up with!

I'm also linked with Tara for summer style today.

Coast to Coast Post: Glitterary Girl Meets Inherited Jeans

Isn't making a new friend one of the greatest things? Okay, so technically Stephanie at Inherited Jeans and I have never met, but I'm sure if we weren't three time zones apart (Calgary vs. Halifax) we'd do all sorts of girly-stuff together.

Steffi and I have been commenting so much on each other's blogs that we decided to do a coast to coast collaboration post on outfit options for a rainy Canadian day. As life goes, the day I planned on shooting these photos was a little too rainy... like camera-dies-via-drowning rainy. So instead I became the neighborhood crazy girl, posing for photos with an umbrella in sub-zero temperatures. Any precipitation happening would certainly have fallen as snow.

Boots: Call it Spring
Umbrella and tights: Gifts
Bracelets: Joe Fresh and Club Monaco
Earrings: What on Earth

I nearly fell over when I spotted this Vince sweater at Winners. Vince is one of those brands I used to lust over at Holt Renfrew when I lived in Vancouver. Gorgeous, but usually out of my comfort zone in terms of price.

Circle scarves are fabulous to wear in the rain. You can flip one of the loops up over your hair in hopes of avoiding the dreaded frizzies.

Here's how the lovely Stephanie showed us her transitional style.

Coat: H&M
Denim shirt: Joe Fresh
Leopard Blouse: Equipment
Pants: J Brand
Boots: Sam Edelman
Hat: Club Monaco

I adore her hat -  it would work well to save her hair if showers were in the forecast. That coat and those boots were made for each other and I love how the same color is in her animal-print shirt (makes it pop even more).

She's layered to perfection, which is essential for surviving spring in Canada (is it almost here?)

We hope you enjoyed the collaboration post!

How do you dress for unpredictable weather?
