Squinty

Blogger problem: Going from inside to outside to get photos and having sensitive eyes. Call me Squinty.

I went to a family reunion for my mom's first cousins on the weekend. It was great to see people I either hadn't met before or hadn't seen in a long time. Good food, good drinks, and good memories all around.

Be sure to check back on Friday for more photos from my studio session! Happy Hump Day peeps!

The Sunday/Monday Currently 07.29.13

The lovely blog siddathornton does Sunday currently... but I'm a day late linking up (oopsie). Here's my current list.

currently dreaming about:

Colorful shoes to pair with a black dress for a September wedding.

Gorgeous Vince Camutos. They are in my possession but not sure if they will pass the comfort test.

currently wishing for:

A housekeeper. Preferably one who also bakes cookies.

currently loving to wear:

I've been wearing denim shorts a lot these past few weeks and I have an old pair of jeans begging to be turned into cut-offs.

currently listening to:

Radio tunes on the way to work.... puts me a good mood for the day.

currently watching:

The Bachelorette. Dyiiiiing to find out tonight what all the drama is about. I have my theory - let's see if I'm right.

currently reading:

I keep putting down The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest. I cannot get into it but am determined to finish the series, however slowly. At the library, I picked up The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P by Adelle Waldman. I'm barely into it yet, but I think it'll be good. Seems to me, it was a recommended read from Cosmo or another magazine.

currently concerned about:

The difficulty I have in making decisions. Where to get married... what color countertop to put in the kitchen....what color to paint my nails... whether to go red with my hair, go back to lots of blond highlights, or keep it brown (bye bye roots)

currently loving:

Summer....Molson Canadian Cider... working 3 minutes away from Halifax Shopping Center... alpacas

currently planning:

A busy August. Friends are arriving in town for a mini-reunion (so excited!). R and I will also be going to a giant cottage party, I'll be attending a wedding shower for a friend, and we have a potential trip to New Brunswick in the works.

Style Crush via Pinterest

I've been lazy when it comes to my pinning lately. When I learned that longdistanceloving was doing a link-up for a style crush, I typed "Converse" into Pinterest and voila - tons of cute looks. The only thing with Pinterest is it's hard to accurately credit the photo.

Beautiful photo... sorry I couldn't properly credit it.
I love the simplicity of the stripes, the denim, and of course the classic Converse. These shoes are still a contender for my wedding day.

Cropped but Still Covered

Trends come and trends go. Some I've embraced (wedge sneakers... please still be wearable in the fall...) and some I've passed over (torso cut outs). I admit I was skeptical about the return of the crop top - hello overexposure!

News Flash - you can wear a crop top without anyone catching a glimpse of your midriff.

The key is to pair it with a high-waisted bottom.

Crop top: Aeropostale

You can add extra insurance by tucking in an undershirt like I did with this tank.

Wine Weekend

R and I had a great getaway to one of the wine regions in Nova Scotia this weekend. These photos were taken on the grounds of Domaine de Grand Pre and at the World Heritage Site.

Details
Top, sandals, and necklace: American Eagle Outfitters
Jeans: Joe Fresh
Sunnies: Coach

We "may" have come home with four bottles of wine...

If I had to pick a favorite type of wine, I'd choose moscato. What can I say... I have a sweet tooth! Do you have any wine recommendations for me? I'm always open to trying new kinds!

Sandal Savvy

Warning.... this outfit board may be suitable for supermodels only. These tall gladiators are a work of art, but I think a girl has to have legs for miles to be able to pull them off.

Sandal Savvy

Club Monaco / Mango short shorts / Stuart Weitzman flat shoes / Coach bag / Valentino studded bangle / Swarovski crystal hair accessory / Essie nail polish

As usual, I've linked with longdistanceloving for My Friday's Fancies. I went for full on fierce, so I felt I had to balance it with pretty pink nail polish!

I hope everyone has an amazing weekend... we're off to wine country for a bit of fun and food.

Line and envy

Remember how I wrote a novel? No? That's because I haven't done anything with said novel in terms of trying to get an agent for a whole year. Lazy much?

Instead, I've been blogging, reading, embarking on a new career, getting engaged,  and spending far too much time in Joe Fresh.

so cute

All is not lost, however in my little writing universe. Click here and scroll down to the bottom (Volume One, Issue 3). Find your way to page 8... lo and behold... my name in print. Yay!

Thanks to Line Magazine (website, Twitter, Facebook) for the opportunity to stretch my writing muscles and to envy (Facebook, Twitter) for taking the time to chat with me.

You can find hard copies of Line for free where the cool kids hang out in Halifax (i.e. random spots downtown). There was a wee mix up...unfortunately my name isn't linked with the article in the printed version. Small potatoes.

Spot the Sequel

My goal of getting through the summer wedding season without buying a new dress has been successful so far. Don't get me wrong, I love buying new dresses... but when you have a bunch of them that don't get out of the closet much, it's worth it to try to get some wear out of them.

When recycling wedding attire, I try not to wear the same dress to a wedding within the same circle of friends. I try to make the look  different by changing up the shoes and the accessories.

Dress: Forever 21
Shoes: Le Chateau
Necklace: Smart Set
I also had a black cardigan on for most of the evening that I forgot to put on for the picture.

The last time I wore this dress I was wearing sandals and silver jewelry.

Two more weddings to go for the year. Will I stick to my "no new dress" rule? Stay tuned to find out!

Tanked

What perfect timing. I'm linked with longdistanceloving for a post on tank tops, and the heat we had here last weekend necessitated no sleeves! It was thirty-four degrees in the shade at 7:00 p.m.

Details
Tank and necklace: American Eagle Outfitters
Shorts: Joe Fresh
Sandals: Madden Girl
Bag: Coach
Bracelet: Le Chateau

These are a stellar pair of white shorts. They are a perfect length, a perfect rise, and not at all see-through.  I can always count on Joe Fresh for perfection at a steal ($16).

I've also linked my post with Mix and Match Fashion for a summer style round-up.

Little Loves of Late 10.07.13

I can't do proper reviews of products. I applaud those bloggers who can... I do read review posts... but -taking photos of a tube of lipstick in various lights, swatching it on my arm, and taking multiple up-close photos of it on my mouth (blotted, unblotted, with gloss over top) is not my idea of fun.

So here are a few things I've been loving lately, without getting into much detail.

First is a swag bag freebie I got from the YHZ Style event last month - a mineral eye shadow - Moonstone by fred.

I use MAC as a reference to everything, and I would compare the color to a cross between Satin Taupe and Retrospeck (two of my absolute favorites). The longevity of Moonstone is good, especially with a MAC paint pot underneath.

Next is another freebie (I swear, I do pay for most things...). I was given a Norwex baby facecloth at  Norwex party my future mom-in-law hosted last month. I was the brave soul who agreed to remove my eye make-up to show how well these cloths work at getting off mascara. OMG. No more eye makeup remover! I've been using my cloth for over a week now and I love it. It gets every little bit of mascara off with just water. I don't use waterproof, but apparently it works well on that too.

I was wandering around Shoppers Drug Mart the other day waiting for a prescription and of course I browsed the make-up section. My eyes are always drawn to sale stickers - the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters were on for $3.99. I picked up Sugar Plum, and on me it's just a wee bit darker than my own lip color. It feels really soft and not at all waxy or dry.

Do you have any little loves lately?

Adding to the Collection

There's something about black tops from Le Chateau that I can't seem to get enough of. I like black shirts because they are season-less and go well with neutrals or brights. The laser-cut details are fun! They had the shirt in white too (another one of my favorite shades) but I preferred the black one.

Details
Jacket: H&M
Shirt: Le Chateau
Jeans: Guess
Shoes: DV Dolce Vita
Necklace and bracelet: Gift

Does a certain color dominate your closet? At a quick glance, I see black, white, and blue in mine (and no you can't see because my closet needs a make-over).

Little White Jacket

I've wanted a white blazer for so long, and this one called my name a few weeks ago. It was on super sale too! This was a weekend outfit, but I can definitely change the jeans for dress pants or a pencil skirt and turn it office appropriate.

Details
Jacket: Smart Set
Top: Joe Fresh
Shoes: Cole Haan
Necklace: Forever 21
Bracelet: Club Monaco
Earrings: Gift
Sunnies: D&G

The ring shots are still a novelty.

I'm linked with longdistanceloving today - the theme is stars and stripes for Independence Day (I played the "any style post will do" card).  I hope my US of A readers had a wonderful holiday!

Dress on Repeat

Do you have a dress that's so versatile that you've worn it over and over again? This dress is at probably four years old and has been worn to at least three weddings and a few other events. It has pockets! How genius!

Details
Dress: Le Chateau
Shoes: Call it Spring
Watch: Guess

The wedding was at Pier 21 overlooking the Halifax Harbour and it was a fun evening. I love self-serve candy stations -a  perfect idea for wedding favours! Congrats Billy and Lindsay!

I'm linked with Tara for a summer style post. Check out the other looks!

Glorious and Free

Canada Day in Halifax this year is a wet event (it was sort of bright outside for a few moments).

Despite the fickle weather, I'm wearing red and white today. It's one of those days where I like what I'm wearing when I look in the mirror, and hate what I'm wearing when I see it in pictures.

Glorious and Free

Pull&Bear printed tank, $12 / True Religion jeans, $360 / Keds , $46 / Tory Burch wrap bracelet / Marc by Marc Jacobs / H&M , $4.56

My most vivid Canada Day moment was getting stung by a bee while watching a parade when I was about five. Ouch!!

Do you have a stand-out Canada Day moment?
