Desert Deal

OK.... I'm supposed to be on a shopping freeze until San Francisco.

BUT...

When you find one pair of desert booties in your size for fifteen bucks, shopping freezes can be overruled.

Are any of you on shopping freezes? Is there an amazing deal you'd break the freeze for?

One Hundred

I wish I had a more exciting post lined up for my 100th...

R and I went to a wedding on the weekend (which was exciting and fun) but I wasn't all that enthused about what I was wearing, and I didn't really do anything special with my hair (good call, it was an outdoor ceremony and quite windy).

Details:
Dress: H&M (Dartmouth)
Pashmina: Costa Blanca (Dartmouth)
Shoes: Le Chateau
Jewelery: All gifts

Yes, I know you can't see my shoes. We'll have to forgive R as he was a groomsman and wasn't in prime photographer mode. Boys just don't understand the importance of footwear.

My necklace is a little Eiffel Tower!

A few weeks ago, I attended a gala at Shoppers Drug Mart for the Look Good Feel Better program. I work with people who have cancer on a daily basis, so I was thrilled to help raise money for the cause.

I had my makeup done by Benefit and received a little swag bag. I also won a door prize! There were a few giant product baskets, but sadly I didn't win one of those...

I was pleased with my winnings! I already own one of the Maybelline BB creams, so now I have two. I'm always happy to try new mascara, and the Rimmel lip gloss is a rosy shiny shade that isn't sticky. The Vichy product is a heavy duty anti-perspirant that I probably won't use.

Thanks so much for supporting the blog!

The Pitch

Glitterary Girl is supposed to be a play on the words "glitter" and "literary".

Lately my posts have been mainly glitter with not much literature. So here's a post about the other side of the blog.

Last year I went to Word on the Street, a writer's playground on the Halifax waterfront. There were books to browse, readings to attend, and plenty of other writers to mingle with. One of the events I attended was Pitch the Publisher, where writers get a chance to stand in front of three local publishers and tell them about a writing project that they'd like to see in print.

I promised myself that I'd finish my book and pitch it by the time the 2012 event took place.

From reading other blogs, and based on what I saw last year, I knew there wasn't much of a chance I'd have any luck getting my book picked up. Genre fiction is frowned upon in this market, and my book can definitely be described as "chick-lit". However, I knew it would be a fabulous opportunity to get opinions from professionals on the quality of my pitch. I'll take all the help in this process that I can get!

I was moderately nervous before the event and didn't even want any supporters in the audience. That way, if I was booed off the stage, no one would know but me!

To sum it up: it was a positive experience. My voice wavered only slightly, I didn't trip on my way to the microphone, and I got mostly positive feedback. As expected, Nova Scotia isn't a great market to try to publish chick-lit, but now I know that for sure and I'll continue to send queries out to agents in larger centers.

I wear my glasses when I want to look bookish.

Details:
Cardigan and scarf: Smart Set (Halifax)
Jeans: Calvin Klein (Costco, Halifax)
Shoes: Franco Sarto (Town Shoes, Toronto)
Tank and necklace: Forever 21 (LA)
Glasses: D&G
Watch: Guess (Vancouver)

I picked up the latest novel, Kin, by one of my favorite Nova Scotia authors (Lesley Crewe) and was fortunate enough to speak with her for a few minutes. She was so friendly and encouraging! I can't wait to read Kin, and I'll feature it in a Novel-Tea post when I'm done.

Football Fashionista

I'm not a huge fan of football, but I happen to share a home with someone who is. I knew R would be a wealth of information when it came to choosing team colors for a football themed post hosted by longdistanceloving.    He chose the Boise State Broncos for my team colors.

Details:
Shirt: Old Navy (Halifax)
Tank: Le Chateau (Halifax)
Jeans: 7 For All Mankind (NYC)
Scarf: Smart Set (Halifax)
Shoes: Cole Haan (Freedman's, Vancouver)
Bracelet: Random shop in St John's, Newfoundland

My attempt at the Heisman.

This was one of my more amusing photoshoots. There's Nike Air technology in my shoes, and it came in handy!

I went to Dalhousie University in Halifax a long time ago a few years back. Our colors were black and gold (Go Tigers!) Sadly, we didn't have a football team.

Darn, we should've asked for blue sods when we landscaped....

Check out the other team color outfits on longdistanceloving. It's a great way to discover new blogs!
