The Last Day as a Miss

Can you believe we forgot to take photos at our wedding rehearsal? It was one of the few times I actually wore heels and I have no evidence! This picture was taken later that evening after the heels were banished.

Dress: Club Monaco
Bag: Coach
Sandals: TopShop

The rehearsal was quick and easy. My goal was to cry through the whole thing in hopes of getting it all out the day before, but I wasn't in the mood to cry. We met our ceremony coordinator and our officiant - both were so friendly and so good at what they do.

Stay tuned next week for some photos from the Britney Spears concert!

Have a great weekend!

Wedding Wednesday: The Shower

OK, I realize this post is way late! Better late than never though!

Back in early September, my mom-in-law and mom co-hosted a beautiful wedding shower for me. Here are a few of the photos from the afternoon.

Dress and Necklace: Forever 21
Shoes: DKNY

There were actually people there, I promise! These photos were taken before and after the party.

This photo c/o Shannon Lynch Photography
A few weeks later my friends from forever threw me a really fun casual shower in my hometown. Thanks so much to everyone who helped me celebrate this exciting time! I do miss being a bride...

Proof that Chucks Go With Anything

Situation: You're in Vegas. You've spent the day outlet shopping. Feet are begging for mercy. Beautiful booties you were going to wear have heels. Heels cannot happen.

Solution: Wear Chucks.

Details
Dress: Banana Republic
Bracelets: Stella & Dot
Sneakers: Converse

I wore this outfit to Ryan's bachelor party at SeƱor Frogs. The boys spent the afternoon at Las Vegas Speedway and then went to dinner at Carmine's. I had a lovely dinner at The Cheesecake Factory with my friends Amy and Shannon (thanks for the pics Shan!) before heading to the party. R and I have been saying how much we miss Vegas lately! It was such a fun time, and I'm sure we'll never have that many friends in Vegas together again... unless someone else gets married!

We have our wedding photos now! We have looked at about 300 of them, but there are around 3000 in total. Once we've seen them all, I will do a few wedding posts!

TOMS for Target

Stylish and charitable - I adore the new Target collaboration!

On Nov. 16, Target and TOMS launched their line. I was stoked to go that morning, but life (and my life right now is cleaning and organizing) got in the way. Monday at lunch was when I was able to check it out.

For each item bought, a week of meals, a blanket, or shoes will be donated to someone in need. How could you possibly say no? It's like donating to charity and getting something great for free!

The hoodies are beautiful, but I just don't need another hoodie in my life right now. If you're in the market for one, you should definitely check them out! I tried on the lighter poncho but like every other poncho, it seemed to overwhelm me. If I can find the darker one at another store, I'll try it on. TOMS shoes are so cute, but they are always too wide for me. I love the black shiny ones from this collection!

Here's the link to the full collection: http://www.target.ca/en/whatsinstore/toms?lnk=content

I ended up choosing a pretty, casual, but feminine tee (shown below) that has rose gold lettering. For $16 and the charitable donation, it was a total steal. Since it was for charity, I'm not counting it towards my clothing budget for the quarter.

Hurry to Target before this collection disappears!

On the Porch

Before our house was done (we've been moved in for two weeks now), we stopped by almost every day to see how things on the exterior were going. I was excited when the front porch was added - it turned out bigger than we expected!

Details
Vest: Smart Set
Shirt and Jeans: Gap
Boots: Aldo

I can see this front porch being a backdrop for many future blog posts. We've been really busy trying to get everything settled from the move. The room that is taking the most time to organize is definitely the master closet! I keep moving things around and still need to find "homes" for most of my accessories and jewellery. Does anyone have any idea on where to put tank tops? They seem like a waste of space to hang...

I'm With Scary

The day after the wedding, we went for lunch with both sets of parents at The Yardhouse, an awesome restaurant at The Linq. Along the way, we stopped to get up close with a few of the creatures that were out for pre-Halloween.

Details
Tank: Gap
Skirt: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target
Sandals: Top Shop
Bag and Sunnies: Coach

We're still sifting through boxes from the big move, but feeling more settled as each day passes. Soon, I'll share some photos of the house and our master closet (my special spot). Have a wonderful weekend!

Sprinkles and Staircases

It was my second trip to Vegas- you'd think I'd know better. I brought two pair of high heels and wore them for a combined total of about two hours. Heels that can stand the test of a Halifax night out will not usually stand up to a Vegas night out - no matter how great they are. Flats are always the answer unless cabs are involved. These became my "dress shoes" - LOL. At least they're leather.

Details
Blazer: Ann Taylor
Shirt: Dynamite
Jeans: Gap
Sneakers: Converse
Bag: Danier
Bracelet: Stella & Dot

Another thing that was a bit of a waste of suitcase space was my Canon camera. I did use it a bit, but it's too big to take out to dinner and for walking the Strip, so most of my outfit shots are with my phone's camera (i.e - crappy quality). We had some wedding photos taken on these stairs - can't wait to see them!

Las Vegas now has a Sprinkles - the same cupcake store that is famous in LA. On our last night we had chocolate cake from our reception venue and then bought cupcakes to have for breakfast the next day.

R's was chocolate (no surprise) and I tried the double cinnamon. It was delicious!

Quasi-cape

While I love the look of a cozy cape, being petite can make capes a really hard style to pull off. Every single one I've tried on swallows me whole.

Luckily, giant scarves can act like capes and are a great alternative for those of us vertically challenged.

Scarf: Dynamite
Jacket: Mac and Jac
Jeans: Calvin Klein
Boots: Aldo
Bag: c/o Nine West

These photos were taken in New Brunswick the about a week before we left for Vegas. Next week I'll share some more Vegas style shots. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. We're still up to our ears in boxes!

My Monthly Purchases: October 2014

This was a very heavy spending month. Vegas will do that to a clothing budget!

October is also the first month of my shopping quarter, so the amount of shopping I'll be doing for myself in November and December will be tiny!

Here's what I bought before Vegas:

Jeans: American Eagle Artist Crop
Discounted from $50 to $20
My current cropped jeans are scandalously low-rise and needed to be replaced. I've been very happy with the past few denim purchases I've made lately from AE.

Jumpsuit: Smart Set
Discounted from $55 to $21
I cannot believe I own a jumpsuit. One-piece garments of any kind are usually a really bad idea for me (don't ask, I'm long-waisted), but this one fits well! I admit I haven't styled it yet, but I'm excited to wear it soon with a belt and booties.

Now for the Vegas buys (in American $$.) I did all my shopping at the Vegas North Premium Outlets and Fashion Show Mall:

Blazer: Armani Exchange (army green, pretty basic, no photo)
Discounted from $148 to $30
I've been looking for an army green blazer. This one fit well and the price couldn't be beat!

Flats: Tory Burch (found on Shop Bop)
Discounted from $235 to $129
I've always wanted Tory Burch flats! It was a toss up between these ones and a pair from Vince Camuto, but these won because they were more fun! Gotta love the outlet price! I found the bags at the outlet to be really expensive for an outlet store, but the shoes were discounted nicely.

Sweater: J Crew
Discounted from $74.50 to $37.00
I have now filled my camel-coloured sweater void. Camel goes with so many other colours.

Shirt: Top Shop
Regular Price: $28
This will go well with my Top Shop windowpane skirt and other high-waisted skirts I own. The colour is rich and I can wear it with a blazer on top in the winter.

Headband: Anthropologie
Discounted from $28 to $11
I want to make a bigger effort to be less boring with my hair. This headband is a nice way to make a subtle statement.

Cardigan: Forever 21
Regular Price: $20
OK, I now fully understand why I rarely buy anything at Forever 21 in Canada, but always find stuff in the States. The prices are SO MUCH cheaper. Seriously. I tried on a jacket that I liked but I knew it would be heavy in my suitcase, so I figured I might pick it up in Canada. It's $20 more here, BEFORE you factor in the exchange rate. Agh. I was on the hunt for both a heavy weight and lightweight cardigan. Here is the heavy one. I bought it in grey.

Cardigan: Forever 21
Regular price: $9
My trusted H&M navy cardi is three years old and showing it. Here's a replacement at a great price. If it falls apart, I don't care. This will do until I find a great quality one.

Handbag: Kate Spade Southport Avenue Alessa (found on Amazon)
Discounted from $348 to $146
I have waited almost a year to buy a new black handbag after deciding my six year old Coach tote needs to retire. Lesson learned: Never buy an expensive fabric bag - always go leather. Still, six years was a good run.... I used it soooo much. I was very picky with my new handbag. I wanted something structured so when I put something in it, it stays where it belongs. I love the idea of a unstructured bag, but so much time is wasted with rummaging. I also wanted an outside pocket and the ability to wear it cross body. The only thing this bag is missing is feet. Hopefully the bottom won't get banged up. I also wanted gold details so it will match my winter coat.

Shoes: Jack Purcell by Converse (found at The Bay)
Discounted from $80 to $24
I went in to buy laces and came out with these. I just have to accept that in my mind, I will never have enough Converse. These are leather and awesome. I even managed to pull them off with a dress in Vegas (watch for that post soon).

Scarf: Zara
Regular price: $30
I've been wanting a nice plaid scarf from Zara since last year. They are so cozy!

Gift from my mom:
Earrings: Tory Burch
These are sold out on-line everywhere I looked on-line. They are quite big on me for studs as my ears are tiny. Very classy! Thanks Mom!

Value of Items: $1105.50
Price I Paid: $505

I saved 54%

That leaves me with $145 to spend for the rest of the year. Gah. I'm going to have to be extremely selective... and find somewhere else to hang out at lunch besides the mall.

Back to Not-So-Normal

It feels good to be typing again! Excuse my several week absence. I was away taking care of some pretty important stuff - going on vacation, getting married, and moving into a new home!

My life is in a merry state of turmoil at the moment, but I thought I'd hammer out a quick post to show you a tiny bit of the Las Vegas trip. I'm going to wait until all of the professional photos are in before doing a dedicated wedding post - so hang on tight for about two more weeks. In the meantime, I have lots of Vegas style to share!

This was what I wore for the first day in Vegas, which was spent getting our marriage license and meeting with the reception venue. Friendly hint: If anyone ever gets married in Vegas, go to the courthouse when it first opens. We had no wait at all to get our license.

Details
Skirt: H&M
Sandals: TopShop
Sunnies: Coach
Bag: Danier
Watch: Guess

This is a photo taken from our hotel room at Caesar's Palace. The Bellagio fountains were beside us, and the view at night was simply stunning (I'll share night photos later). Also, I quite loved waking up to see the Chanel sign every morning.

Please be patient with me this week, as house organization is topping my list of priorities at the moment. My hopes are to share with you my October buys (including lots of Vegas finds) and another   outfit post from before our trip.
